Coursepack Requisition Guidelines

The Bookstore complies with all United States copyright laws. Permission to reproduce copyrighted material will be obtained prior to printing, providing faculty with a legal means for distributing copyrighted materials to students.

Coursepack material may include class notes, lab notes, assignments, a compilation of material from various books and journals, or an out of print book (up to 10% of an in print book may be reproduced).

The Bookstore's goal is to print as many coursepacks as we can sell. We cannot return the remaining copies to the publisher like we can with textbooks, but must absorb the cost of any overstock. When printing, we take into account the estimated enrollment figures given to us, as well as sales figures from previous years. As soon as the initial inventory has been sold, we produce additional copies "on demand" which means delivery to the student within 24 hours.

Creating a Coursepack

Submit Materials Early:
It is important that you compile and submit all your materials as soon as possible, especially if copyright permission is required. On average, please allow 4-5 weeks for the production of coursepacks requiring copyright permissions.

Consolidate your Materials:
Consolidate all of your course materials and handouts into a single coursepack. Contact The Bookstore to see examples of other coursepacks.

Provide Clean Originals:
We make the best possible copy of what is provided to us, however, even the latest technology cannot improve the quality of some originals.

Tips for Creating High Quality Originals:

• Provide The Bookstore with the original document or the best copy available. All original materials will be returned to you.
• Allow sufficient margin space for binding.
• Prior to submission, review material to make sure that pages are in order and complete.

Provide Source Information for Copyright Permission Requests:
To help expedite permission requests, please provide us with as much of the following information as possible.

Source Information

• Title of article, chapter or selections
• Source of each article
• Author
• Page numbers
• Publisher
• Copyright Date
• Internet Address (if online source)
